Our Equipment

One of the questions we get asked the most is, what kind of equipment do you use? Here is some of the equipment used during investigations. We don’t always use the same pieces of equipment, it varies based on the case. Our inventory is constantly changing as we are always trying to add the latest ghost hunting tools.

4-channel DVR system – This is our 4-channel DVR system made by SVAT. The IR cameras are wired to the DVR and we connect the whole setup to our laptop during investigations. Both during the investigations and evidence review, we can watch all four cameras at once or each as a single screen. During an investigation, we might be in the dark, but we’re almost always on camera!

Digital Voice Recorders -  We use a variety of digital audio recorders. They all have different features and every investigator has a favorite. Most of our recorders have enhanced sound capabilities & USB connectivity but we keep a few older models to use at larger locations and as backups.

EMF Detectors and Thermometers – We use several styles of EMF detectors and thermometers. On an investigation we take base readings throughout the location and then track both IR and ambient temperature changes and watch for EMF spikes. We rely on the Mel-Meters, 822 EMF meter and pistol IR thermometers for numerical readings. We like the audible signal on the Ghost Meters and are still exploring the use of the KII Meters as communication devices. During an investigation, each team carries a walkie-talkie for safety and communication.

Sony Handycams – In addition to the wired cameras, teams carry Sony Handycams and specially designed IR lights to enhance the built in night shot mode. We like these cameras because they are as mobile as we are and have audio capabilities. We can take them into areas not accessible with our wired cameras or get close up shots of equipment reacting to possible activity–so we never miss a thing!

Flashlights with Red Filters – Each investigator carries a flashlight with a red filter to protect our natural night vision and to minimize interference with video recording equipment, while still allowing us to see.

Laptop – We use a Dell Laptop as a monitor for the DVR system.  This gives us the ability to watch all four screens at any point during the investigation.

Digital and 35 mm cameras – We use a variety of cameras during investigations.  We have a number of digital and 35 mm cameras.

Batteries – This picture shows the minimum number of batteries we take on an investigation. We use freshly charged rechargeable batteries for most things but we also have a large backup supply of regular batteries just in case they’re needed.
