The Mineral Springs Hotel in Alton, Illinois has a long, rich history of hauntings. Stories of the Lavender Lady that fell to her demise after being pushed down the hotel staircase, the rumors of the deaths of long ago hotel visitors that perished in the hotel pool, and several others are echoed through the halls of the now office building and café.

St. Louis Ghost Hunters were very excited to have an opportunity to investigate the old hotel. Upon arrival STLGH were met by Steve, a fellow paranormal enthusiast and affiliate of the Hotel. Steve provided very in depth tour of the Hotel. He showed us the “hot spots” found during previous investigations and shared with us the folklore and facts of the horrific history of the Mineral Springs.

After touring the facility, we set up our cameras and recorders in some of the known hot spots as well as a location known as Pearl’s room which had never had a camera left running in it. We then began our unrestricted investigation of the entire building, including the old slaughterhouse that lies deep below the hotels main floor.

As the investigation began, the group split up and invited Steve to investigate with us. Eric, Jen, and Steve first investigated in the upstairs hotel rooms and the room known as Pearl’s Room. Pearl was a lady that spent a lot of time in this hotel room and eventually took her own life there.

Lindsey, Adam and Josh started their part of the investigation in the lower levels of the hotel, including the slaughterhouse on the lower most level. Little activity was documented during these investigations. Neither group experienced much in the way of activity.

The entire team then met up to investigate the men’s pool. Once inside the pool area the K2 meters measured electromagnetic fields from unknown sources. These spikes seemed to correlate with the personal experiences of cold spots that were had by the group. Photos taken during these experiences revealed possible orbs and light abnormalities.

STLGH and Steve seemed to have an interesting session with the spirit of a little girl (a little girl named Cassandra died in the pool in the early 1900′s) that is thought to reside in the area of the men’s pool. Upon request of the spirit to blow out the candles burning in the room the flames would flicker. While the flickering of a candle flame alone is not enough for STLGH to say we experienced a ghost, this is connection with the K2 spikes and the possible orb photos definitely leads us to believe the spirit of a child was encountered that night.

After leaving the Mineral Spring Hotel, STLGH spent hours reviewing the evidence collected that night. In addition to the number of phenomenal pictures captured that evening, video evidence of an unexplainable light and a mist were found in Pearl’s Room. The light seems to enter the room from the hallway. You can see the light enter the doorway at about 10 seconds. Then at 15 seconds you can see in come in front of the closet door. This light is much slower than the dust that’s flying around the rest of the room.

Shortly after the mist seems to come through the closet door and appear in the room. It disappears as quickly as it appears. The mist starts to form 4 seconds into the video. During the hours of video evidence captured, neither of these activities happened again.

We are impressed with the activity we captured during our investigation of The Mineral Springs Hotel. St. Louis Ghost Hunters would like to thank the Mineral Springs Hotel for all their cooperation with our investigation. STLGH has concluded that there are spirits or entities that seem to be in the halls, pool, and rooms of The Mineral Springs Hotel. We cannot be absolute about the persona of the energy captured in Pearl’s Room, or that that we in fact had found the child that had drown in the pool. All we can conclude is that the activity we experienced is in deed, paranormal.
