St. Louis Ghost Hunters investigated a private residence/business in Old Monroe, Missouri. The family had many stories of possible paranormal activity and a long list of unusual occurrences.
The home is about 25 years old and originally belonged to the client’s grandparents. The couple currently lives in the home with their sons and daughter.

Prior to our investigation, the client experienced numerous instances of lights flickering throughout the house and in the daughter’s room, and a strong electrical burning smell. The client had an electrician inspect the home and it was found that the electrical wiring through the home was in good working order.

In the master bedroom, the client noticed an unidentifiable substance which appeared to be dripping down the wall behind the bed. The client’s grandfather passed away in the master bedroom and they were unsure whether this substance had anything to do with him.

The clients have had numerous experiences in the living room.  One of the clients witnessed a helium balloon drift down the hall and appear to “sit” on the couch next to him. He asked the balloon to go away and it responded to him by promptly drifting back down the hall and into his daughter’s bedroom.  A toy ball has also been witnessed moving back and forth like children were playing with it.

The client’s son has reported waking up to see a shadow person standing near the foot of the bed watching him. One of the clients reported seeing shadows in the hall, near the location where her son also reported seeing something.

The couple also gave accounts of hearing footsteps in the upstairs hall and while downstairs, hearing unexplainable loud thumps coming from upstairs. In the basement storage area, one of the clients reported watching an office chair spin around in circles for no reason.

On investigation night, the clients gave STLGH a detailed tour of the home and then retreated to the finished basement while the equipment was setup. We stationed infrared cameras in each of the three bedrooms and on the office chair in the basement storage area. We stationed a MiniDV camera in the living room, focused on a ball, in hopes that we’d catch some movement. Audio recorders were placed throughout the home and carried by investigators throughout the investigation.

Investigators Jen Leggett, Lindsey Piech and Adam Gummersheimer thoroughly investigated each room of the home, as well as the outside perimeter of the home.  Baseline temperatures and EMF readings in each room. Although increased EMF readings were observed in several areas of the home, sources of the high readings were consistently found. No abnormal fluctuations in temperature were experienced.

Overall, the investigation seemed very quiet and uneventful.  The group tried various styles of investigating hoping to experience some of the paranormal claims first hand.   Unfortunately, no one was able to document any significant personal experiences.

Upon review of the audio evidence, we did not capture any EVPs or abnormal sounds. Additionally, we did not capture any unexplained shadows or other abnormalities on the DVR and MiniDV video footage. During the investigation, we examined the dripping marks on the wall in the master bedroom. We have not previously encountered marks like this and although we are not positive what they are caused by, we do not believe them to be paranormal in nature. Although we were successful in recreating shadows in the hallway, none of our attempts resulted in anything which could have reliably explained what the clients observed.

STLGH enjoyed meeting the family and investigating the home even though we were unable to document any evidence to indicate the presence of paranormal activity. The clients are steadfast about their experiences and although we did not experience anything unusual on the night we investigated, we do not discount the possibility that something paranormal in nature may be occurring.
