The Mineral Springs Hotel in Alton, Illinois has a long, rich history of hauntings. Stories of the Lavender Lady that fell to her demise after being pushed down the hotel staircase, the rumors of the deaths of long ago hotel visitors that perished in the hotel pool, and several others are echoed through the halls of the now office building and café.

St. Louis Ghost Hunters were very excited to have an opportunity to investigate the old hotel. Upon arrival STLGH were met by Steve, a fellow paranormal enthusiast and affiliate of the Hotel. Steve provided very in depth tour of the Hotel. He showed us the “hot spots” found during previous investigations and shared with us the folklore and facts of the horrific history of the Mineral Springs.

This time we took a different approach and tried to stir up the activity. After the previous investigation, we had reason to believe that the activity was caused by an angry spirit named “Thomas” who did not like the music played in the home. Both of the owners are musicians and one of them, Nicole agreed to play the guitar and sing during the beginning of the investigation to try to stir Thomas up. The group was also shadowed by Aimee Levitt, a writer for the Riverfront Times, for her feature on the group.

St. Louis Ghost Hunters were contacted by the home owner after she and her husband were no longer living at the house. The owner indicated that while they lived there a number of things had occurred that seemed to have no explanation. The owner had an uneasy feeling in the house and would hear noises on a regular basis. Some of the activity she recalled was finding dog collars unclipped that were normally left clipped, the feeling of someone sitting on the corner of the bed when she was lying down and she witnessed doors on her armoire close on their own behind her as she was looking in a mirror. There was also a closet door in the basement that would open on it’s own.
